Harlequin Players
Harlequins' first season set the pattern for those to come. The group operated out of the Fine Arts Building at St. Mark's, presenting four productions on a weekly cycle. Casts and crews would begin preparing each show while the one before it was still in performance; the company was at work seven days a week (except for Sunday mornings). The 35 company members were rotated through cast and crew positions and, except for the director, stage manager, and designer roles, were in complete charge of each production.   The shows were diverse in scale and style, from two intimate small-cast one-acts to the full-scale Under Milkwood. Tickets were priced at an affordable $1.00 each; the company's shoestring budget was funded through ticket sales, program advertising, a small fee from company members, a garage sale, and donations.
