Our youngest Marksmen begin their journey on the Path to Manhood in the Fojtasek Family Lower School. With abundant natural curiosity, these first through fourth graders learn how to learn in this safe, nurturing environment. The Lower School faculty understands young boys and their development, and they bring a wealth of expertise to their classrooms.
It’s no surprise that we have a rigorous academic curriculum in place. Equally important is the leadership and character growth that these young boys develop in their formative years. Courage and honor are at the heart of our code of ethics. Every student, teacher, and staff member at St. Mark’s School of Texas signs the school’s honor code. This code is thoroughly discussed with our young boys so that they understand its significance. Wise Heads, Responsive Hearts, and Skilled Hands is the resounding theme in the Lower School. Boys learn at this early age how to make good choices and to be honest, kind, and loyal. We consistently encourage boys to always “do the right thing, even if nobody is watching.” Our diverse community celebrates our differences regularly, and a respectful inclusion of all is an integral part of St. Mark’s.
The Lower School boys get many opportunities to work with boys at other grade levels. Whether it is a “Senior Buddy” event, cheering for an athletic team, listening to an orchestra ensemble share their talents, or participating in a school-wide community service project, all boys are encouraged to participate and give back.
The four years in the Lower School instill a love of learning that lasts a lifetime. Preparing these boys for this global world is a task we take very seriously. We prepare them academically, physically, socially, and emotionally to independently and collaboratively make connections and problem solve for the 21st century and beyond.
