Dear St. Mark’s Parents,
During a normal year, the St. Mark’s Parents’ Association would be in full swing planning activities for our entire community. From hosting Back-to-School parties and organizing the Lions’ Closet, to staffing the Cafeteria and Student Store, St. Mark's parents consistently and faithfully volunteer their time and talents to enrich the lives of our Marksmen and to make our community strong.
However, we must acknowledge that this is anything but a normal year. With the challenges brought on by COVID-19, our mission as a Parents’ Association has taken a new turn. Certainly, building a strong community will always be an important objective. However, we must now prioritize the health and safety of our boys, our families, and our faculty and staff. As the Parents’ Association, we recognize that our primary goal is for our boys to safely return to on-campus learning this fall. Therefore, any Parents’ Association event or volunteer opportunity that might jeopardize the opportunity for on-campus learning must be reevaluated.
This means that for the time being, our volunteer tool, SignUp Genius, will not go live as originally planned. Until we understand the impact of large group gatherings and volunteers on campus in relation to disease control, we will pause on any volunteer sign-ups. You will be notified if and when volunteer sign-ups do go live. You will not miss it!
In that light, please continue to check your Class Pages and the website Resource Board. The Parents’ Association will continue to post all relevant information there. This is where you will find important details about events throughout the year and changes to any such events as needed. Please check the Resource Board and your Class Page on a regular basis.
Though we face many new and unprecedented challenges as a community, what hasn’t changed is the St. Mark’s spirit – a desire and determination to care for one another, to seek the best for our boys, and to set an example of service and self-sacrifice for the greater good. On a daily basis, I find myself encouraged and inspired by the heart of this community and I thank you.
I wish you and your family a healthy and relaxing summer and I look forward to the time when we can all gather together again at Parents’ Association events.
President, St. Mark’s Parents’ Association (2020-2021)
