The First Grade Application Process

  • Applicant Guidelines

    All first grade applicants must be in kindergarten or primer in the fall of 2020 and be at least six years old by September 1, 2021.

    *Dual Application Option: Within specific age ranges, boys who are currently in first grade may apply simultaneously to first and second grade. If you are interested in your son being considered for both grades, please contact the Office of Admission for additional information.

    Please Note: All applications received after the due date will be accepted and considered on a space-availability basis.
  • Forms to Submit and Deadline

    Submit the following to St. Mark's by December 14, 2020:
    • Application form submitted online
    • Remarks from Parents
    • Application Fee of $50
  • Register for Testing & Observation

    Please note: Date and time requests for 1st grade testing and observation are due on or before Monday, December 14.

    -The Independent Schools Admission Association of Dallas (ISAAD) has collaborated to offer virtual achievement testing for 1st grade candidates applying to member schools. Candidates need only register once and should only test one time. The cost of the test is $200. 

    Online Registration Instructions:
    1. Go to this registration link.
    2. Click on your preferred date and add to cart.
    3. You will be able to see test samples by clicking “View Test Sample” during registration.
    4. Click on the shopping cart at the upper right corner.
    5. Check out by making an account with an email & password.
    6. Enter your child’s first & last name, child’s birthdate and click the box giving permission for the testing session to be recorded for proctoring purposes.
    7. Enter your payment information. You will then see a screen that says Purchase Complete!

    -Virtual observation and virtual testing will be two separate events. Once you submit the application you will have the opportunity to select your preferred observation date. 

    -You may submit additional information about your son that, while not required, will help us learn more about him, and provide additional perspective on his talents and interests. Please be aware that if you choose to include cognitive ability testing (for candidates in grades 1-4), that testing must be conducted by Collaborative Academic Testing Service (CATS). Please visit CATS for additional information.
  • Records and Evaluation Forms

    School Records & Teacher Evaluation Form due to St. Mark's by January 11, 2021:
    • Submit the signed Records Release Form to the Registrar at your son's current school; records are due to St. Mark's on or before January 11. 
    • Request your son's Current Teacher Evaluation via the online form; the completed form is due to St. Mark's on or before January 11.

Second - Fourth Grade Application Process

    *Dual Application Option: Within certain age ranges, boys may apply simultaneously to the grade they are currently enrolled, as well as the next sequential grade. Although only one application is required, testing requirement may vary. For more information on a dual application option, please contact the Office of Admission.

    Please note: Applications received after the due date will be accepted and considered on a space availability basis.
  • Forms to Submit and Deadline

    Submit the following to St. Mark's by November 30, 2020:
    • Application Form submitted online
    • Remarks from Parents
    • Application Fee of $50
  • Register for Testing & Observation

    Please note: Date and time requests for 2nd - 4th grade testing and observation are due on or before Monday, November 30.

    -Virtual observation for applicants to grades 2, 3 and 4 will take place the morning of Saturday, December 5 and Saturday, December 12. Once the initial application is submitted online, you will be able to log-in to your parent portal and choose the date and time that works best for you and your son. 

    -Additional information regarding virtual testing for 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade applicants will be available soon. Virtual testing will take place in December and is separate from the virtual observation. 

    -You may submit additional information about your son that, while not required, will help us learn more about him, and provide additional perspective on his talents and interests. Fifth - Eleventh Grade Application Process

    • Applicant Personal Inventory and Self-Assessment
    • Applicant Activity Summary
    • Remarks from Parents 
    • Application Fee of $175
  • Records and Evaluation Forms

    School Records & Teacher Evaluation Form due to St. Mark's by January 15, 2021:
    • Submit the signed Records Release Form to the Registrar at your son's current school; records are due to St. Mark's on or before January 15.
    • Request your son's current Math and English Teacher evaluations via the online form; evaluations are due to St. Mark's on or before January 15. 
  • ISEE Testing

    • The Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) for grades 5-11 is currently available to take at home. Please note that it is the parent's responsibility to register their son to take the ISEE test at ERB: ISEE.
    • Applicants should sit for the ISEE no later than February 1, 2021.
  • Interview

    Interviews for Middle and Upper School applicants will be held virtually for the 2021-2022 application season.
