Middle School Awards Announced

On Wednesday, May 28, 2014, several boys were honored at the Middle School Final Assembly for their outstanding achievement. Head of Middle School Warren Foxworth ’66 read the following awards.
The Hunt Silcock Award is presented in memory of Hunt Silcock, a seventh-grade Marksman who passed away in December, 2002. Hunt Silcock exemplified the traits of honor and integrity, intellectual enthusiasm and academic excellence, athleticism and sportsmanship, and citizenship and character throughout his life. This year the winner of the Hunt Silcock Award is Lyle Ochs ’19.

The Athlete of the Year Award is presented to an eighth-grade student who has demonstrated outstanding athletic ability in several sports. Through his high standards of sportsmanship, he has exhibited the positive leadership skills St. Mark’s desires to instill in all of its athletes. This year’s Athlete of the Year Award is presented to Garrett Mize ’18.

The Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Medal is awarded each year to an eighth-grader who has demonstrated the qualities of honor, service, courage, leadership, and patriotism. This year we proudly present this medal to Blake DeSantis ’18.
 
The Outstanding Scholar Award is presented to an eighth-grade student who has demonstrated superior mastery of his subjects. He is recognized for his inquisitive mind and his dedicated quest for knowledge. This year’s recipient for the Outstanding Scholar Award is Ben Clayman ’18.
 
Two students have earned the designation Thomas B. Walker III, Class of 1973 Scholars. Walker Scholars exemplify the qualities of mind and character that St. Mark’s seeks to inculcate in all of its students. The first winner this year for the Thomas B. Walker III ’73 award is Jimmy Rodriguez ’18.
 
The Middle School Cup is presented to a young man who has worked hard to attain high academic achievement and has ably represented the school in athletics and fine arts. Because of his good citizenship and character, he has earned the warm respect of his peers and teachers. This young man is also recognized as a Thomas B. Walker III ’73 Scholar. The winner of the Middle School Cup for 2014 is Davis Bailey ’18.
