Centennial Challenge Final Report Released

On October 4, 2013, St. Mark’s School of Texas publicly announced the successful completion of The Centennial Challenge, with gifts and pledges totaling $112,210,369. The Campaign was the third largest fundraising effort among independent day schools in the nation. Campaign Co-chairs Kathy Crow, Wallace Hall ’80, and Casey McManemin ’79 delivered the Final Report to the School community through a website devoted to the achievements of this historic effort.

During the 2006-2007 school-year St. Mark’s celebrated its 100th anniversary, and in doing so, began planning for an effort that would advance the School’s mission of helping boys become good men. Publicly launched on November 9, 2009 with a goal of $110 million, The Centennial Challenge was one of the most ambitious comprehensive fundraising campaigns among independent day schools in the country. Its objectives included new endowment funds for teachers, programs, and student financial aid, as well as significant resources to improve campus facilities. The Centennial Challenge was supported by 5,761 donors who made 23,831 unique gifts.

Campaign highlights include 80 new endowed funds for student financial aid, faculty support, and other campus programs.  The Campaign also produced more than $45,000,000 in campus improvements, which include Centennial Hall and The Robert K. Hoffman Center (both LEED Silver Certified) as well as The Norma and Lamar Hunt Family Stadium.  The St. Mark’s Fund, which supports annual operating needs, grew 42% during the Campaign.  The number of endowed teaching positions nearly doubled, 31 state-of-the-art classrooms were added as part of 80,000 square feet of new construction, and an alumni driven financial aid challenge yielded more than $10,000,000 in contributions from graduates to support qualified students requiring scholarship assistance.

“I am humbled and inspired by the generosity we’ve witnessed over the last several years.  The response to the priorities of The Centennial Challenge has been truly breathtaking and affirms the important role that St. Mark’s plays as one of the leading institutions in north Texas. It has been deeply gratifying to see so many people unite around the School’s mission of educating the whole boy,” said Assistant Headmaster David Dini.
