From Graduates to Guides

These Lions walked the same halls and pathways years ago, returning to gladly share seasoned insights and experiences from their professional lives after St. Mark’s. The Alumni Association hosted a mentor and networking event on Nov. 30 that connected alums in various fields with Upper School students.

“Our alumni network, spanning generations of Marksmen, is truly an unparalleled collection of leaders in any given field on a local, national and even international level,” said Fadi Constantine ’00, chair of the Mentor & Networking Committee. “We want to impart to our boys that walking across the stage in May isn’t the end of their relationship with St. Mark’s but, in many ways, just the beginning.”

Students had the opportunity to attend panel discussions across four industries.

Business and Finance
  • Ben Hughes ’03
  • Ross Crawford ’12
  • Danny McNamara ’14
  • Ben Wilson ’14

Tech and Entrepreneurship
  • Victor Chen ’90
  • Scott Gottlich ’94
  • Hollis Meyer ’07

Law and Government
  • Scott McElhaney ’85
  • Joe Zopolsky ’92
  • David Ortigoza ’97

Medicine and Health Care
  • David Marcus ’98
  • Fadi Constantine ’00
  • Arif Mahmood ’03

With several dozen Upper School students in attendance, discussions varied from higher education requirements to work-life balance challenges and nuances in their industry to how to achieve success in a professional work environment. The visit is part of the St. Mark’s Alumni Association’s broader efforts to connect current students with alumni mentors and to strengthen the overall Marksman network.

“We hope that the boys feel empowered and prepared to engage with alumni professionals, both as a student and an alum,” said Jack Mallick ’14, Ahlberg & Ribman Family Director of Alumni Relations. “All we ask is that years down the line when they are the established professionals, they offer their insight and guidance to the younger generations of Marksmen.”

Alumni mentors will return to campus on Thursday, Jan. 4, to speak at College-Age Marksman Day, where they will support our youngest alums as they prepare to enter the workforce.
