Food Drive Shatters Record

The St. Mark’s community banded together to combat food insecurity across Dallas with a record-breaking Community Service Food Drive. So far, the School has collected more than 3,100 pounds of food items, shattering the previous record of 2,200 pounds set last year.

“The community was so responsive because we are united in times of need. Despite the challenges of this year and the pausing of normal life, families still need our help,” said Benny Wang ’21, who co-chairs the Food Drive along with Owen Goldberg ’21 and Rishi Mohan ’21. “The St. Mark’s motto of ‘Courage and Honor’ does not only apply to one’s self but also holds true in our interactions with the people around us. As Dallas is our home, it’s our duty to give back.”

The Food Drive supports the Salvation Army, which donates food boxes to families across the Dallas area. Donations are organized into 36-pound boxes, with nearly 90 boxes filled to date by the St. Mark’s community. This number will increase as some advisories are still collecting items.

Due to the Drive’s success, organizers are encouraging people to continue donating food items through December. More information will be shared in the coming days.
