All Publications Earn National Acclaim

St. Mark’s five major student publications from the 2018–2019 school year have been honored with Crown Awards, the highest level of awards presented by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA). Publications honored include the Marksmen yearbook, The Marque literary magazine, The Mini-Marque Middle School literary magazine, The Scientific Marksmen, and The ReMarker student newspaper. In March 2020, the CSPA will announce the final round of awards, which are split into the Gold and Silver Crowns. All of the St. Mark’s publications honored are previous Gold Crown winners. The ReMarker has a streak of 16 consecutive Gold Crowns and The Marque has received seven Gold Crowns in a row.
 
Additionally, The ReMarker was recently named a recipient of the National Scholastic Press Association’s Pacemaker Award, the highest award given to student publications. This marks the seventh consecutive Pacemaker Award for the newspaper. The ReMarker’s Focus magazine, a single-topic insert, received its second Pacemaker Award in the row.
 
Individual students were also honored by the Pacemaker Awards:
  • Ishan Gupta ’20, Tyler Nussbaumer ’20, and Austin Zang ’20 — First place, Literary/Specialty magazine cover (The Scientific Marksmen)
  • Morgan Chow ’23 and Branden Song ’20 — Third place, middle school magazine design (The Mini-Marque)
  • William Aniol ’21, Parker Davis ’19, Colin Campbell ’20, Luke Nayfa ’21 — Fifth place, sports reporting (The ReMarker)
  • Nathan Han ’19 — Honorable Mention; magazine design spread (Focus magazine)
  • Kamal Mamdani ’19 — Honorable Mention; cover design (Focus magazine)
  • Luke Piazza ’21, Siddartha Sinha ’21, and Eric Yoo ’21 — Honorable Mention; feature writing (The ReMarker).
  • Sam Ahmed ’20, Colin Campbell ’20, Lyle Ochs ’20, Aaron Thorne ’20, Sid Vattamreddy ’20 — Honorable Mention, social justice reporting (The ReMarker)
  • Svanik Jaikumar ’23 — Honorable Mention; middle school feature writing, (The Mini-Marque)
  • The ReMarker and Focus staff — First place, Social Justice Reporting
