Homecoming Showcases Lion Pride

The St. Mark’s community came together to celebrate Homecoming 2025, marking yet another memorable weekend of connection, school spirit, and tradition. Although the weekend’s festivities flowed in a different order than previous years, nothing could diminish the sense of community permeating each event.

From the moment alumni and families arrived on campus, the sense of connection was unmistakable. On Friday, Oct. 24, students, parents, faculty, staff, and generations of alumni filled the W. W. Browning, Jr., Great Hall for the Homecoming Kick-Off Party, sharing laughter, stories, and the sense of belonging that defines the St. Mark’s experience.

Due to the possibility of inclement weather, the varsity football team took the field a day early against Episcopal High School, Houston. Despite a hard-fought 32–16 loss, the Lions played with determination and heart, their collective effort keeping the team competitive until the final whistle.

At halftime, St. Mark’s presented the 2025 Homecoming Court, which included seniors Kevin Hong, Michael Jimenez, Elijah Kraus, Charlie Mapes, and Ailesh Sadruddin; the Hockaday seniors nominated for Homecoming Queen were Courtney Buford, Kristy Chen, Sarah Moskowitz, Jada Muhia, and Ava Ortega. The celebration continued Saturday evening at the Marktrix-themed Homecoming Dance, where Michael and Courtney were crowned Homecoming King and Queen.

“There was no glitch in the Marktrix! From the lights, to the music, to the perfect post-rain sky, it was a night that felt straight out of a movie – one we hope our boys won't soon forget,” said Chris Kennington, who co-chaired this year’s Homecoming celebration alongside Melissa Saye and Marvetta Scott.

“Homecoming didn’t go exactly as planned – games moved, schedules shifted – but our spirit never wavered,” said Marvetta, “It was proof that true school pride, our LION pride, can't be rained out.”
