Community Celebrates the Season
The holiday season at St. Mark’s concluded this morning with the annual All-School Christmas Party. Students, parents, faculty, staff, and friends applauded as the senior class entered, carrying their Lower School buddies on their shoulders, recalling the iconic Path to Manhood statue. After each buddy placed his ornament on the tree, Student Council President Landon Wood ’19 announced the successful completion of the Student Council and Community Service Board Gift Drive, which collected more than 2,200 gifts for local non-profit organizations.

“It has been an absolute joy to stand outside each morning with our elf costumes donned and see the generosity of our School,” Landon said before presenting the gifts to Major Barbara Rich of the Salvation Army. “I know that we have a great, engaged community here, but you all never fail to leave me awestruck by your kindness. The success of the Gift Drive is yet another testament to how wonderful our community is.”
Before dismissing School for the Christmas break, Eugene McDermott Headmaster David W. Dini left the boys with a few thoughts about the holidays: “In recent weeks, the sights and sounds of the holidays have been all around us, from concerts and Hanukkah Chapel to Lessons & Carols and the decorations on the Quad. But at its core, the meaning of this season is universal. It’s about sharing our many blessing and recognizing that indeed we do stand on the shoulders of those who came before us. The decades-old tradition of seniors carrying in their little buddies that we just witnessed serves as an important reminder of this core value and the important role that Marksmen play in setting an example for those who follow in their footsteps.”
