SoccerThe varsity soccer team traveled to Trinity Valley on Tuesday. The Lions conceded a quick goal after only 36 seconds, but recovered quickly when junior Colin Campbell converted sophomore Eric Yoo’s through ball in the seventh minute. Two minutes later, Yoo connected again, with senior captain Seth Weprin, whose strike caught the Trojan keeper off his line. Just before halftime, Yoo fed junior Alex Piccagli whose quality service found Weprin inside the Trinity Valley penalty area, and the Lions took a two-goal lead. In the second half, senior Shane Ndeda’s free kick created confusion for the Trojan defense. Junior Romil Mathur took advantage to head the ball beyond the reach of the Trinity Valley keeper. Eric Yoo finished the scoring for the Lions by converting another Ndeda free kick into a goal 14 minutes from full time. This week, the Lions take on two conference opponents in “friendly” matchups. The team hosts ESD on Tuesday at 6:30 pm and then plays Greenhill at Hockaday on Friday at 5:30 pm as part of a Daisy/Lion double header.

Basketball
The varsity basketball team competed in a pair of non-conference contests last week. On Tuesday, December 4, the Lions traveled to Plano East. The pace was frenetic early on, but the Lions protected possessions well (only 1 turnover the entire first half) en route to a 38-24 halftime lead. The second half scoring was fairly even, but freshman Noah Shelby's four second-half 3's ensured a 74-64 St. Mark's win over the Panthers. Junior Andrew Laczkowski, sophomore Harrison Ingram, and freshman Colin Smith finished with 17 points each. On Friday night, St Mark's hosted Bryan Adams. A couple of dunks energized the crowd early on, and the Marksmen relied on double-digit scoring performances from Laczkowski, Ingram, Smith, & Shelby to claim victory. Juniors Taylor Hopkin (6 points, 7 rebounds) and Eddie Raj (team-high 4 assists) also turned in stellar performances. This week, the Lions host two more large public schools: Sunset HS on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. and Allen HS, the defending 6A state champion, on Friday also at 7:30 p.m.
