Lions Sports Update 11/17

Basketball
The varsity basketball team opened up the season at home against Ft. Worth Nolan this past Friday night. Ultimately not earning the desired result, the Lions showed heart and determination keeping the game close until the final minutes. Matthew Placide ’16 scored a game high 17 points and the senior leadership from Jalen Lynch, Brannon Rouse, and Parker Dixon kept the team working hard on defense in spite of Nolan’s incredible shooting night. The Lions fell to Nolan 70-52. With only one practice under their belt, the boys looked to rebound Saturday night after a disappointing loss in their home opener. They traveled across town to take on the traditionally tough Bishop Lynch Friars. Looking for the boys to respond after Friday’s loss, the coaches were elated to see the gusto with which the varsity Lions dominated on offense and defense. Parker Dixon ’16 lead all scorers with 23, while Brannon Rouse scored at will in the paint. Guards Chance Cooley ’16, Matthew Placide ’16, Will Ingram ’17, and Garret Mize ’18 all played significant minutes, overwhelming the Friar backcourt and pushing the tempo on offense. The St. Mark’s Lions look to continue the upward trend at home on Tuesday at 6 pm against traditional powerhouse TCA.
