Seniors Serve Community

88 senior boys went to the North Texas Food Bank on August 20th and spent three hours sorting large volumes of food for the hungry of North Texas.  As a group they prepared 21 pallets, 690 boxes, 2711 pounds, and 15,337 meals for the North Texas Community.  It was quite an accomplishment in just three short hours.

The event also marked the beginning of Laura Day's career as Director of the Hockaday/St. Mark's Community Service Program.

Laura is a native of Arlington, Texas.  She earned her bachelor's degree at Regis University (CO) and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Simmons College (MA).  Early in her career, she worked as a research and policy advocate and then research and policy coordinator at the Urban Justice Center/ Community Development Project in New York City.  From there she was environmental/youth organizer for Mothers on the Move in the Bronx before moving to Mother Caroline Academy in Massachusetts, where she was an intern teacher.  Since 2008, Laura has served as history teacher and Community Service Director at the Glen Urquhart School in Beverly, Massachusetts.

We wish Laura a warm welcome to St. Mark's.
