Athletics Highlights

St. Mark’s third match of the season was a visit to Trinity Christian Academy in Addison to play a sophomore laden Trojan team that was missing several starters who were still participating in fall athletics. The Lions played solidly, a workman-like effort indicative of a team still learning to play as a cohesive unit. The combination of Whit Shaw ’09 to Michael Rubin ’08 led to St. Mark’s first goal in the twenty-third minute. The Lions would double their lead within in two minutes of the start of the second half with a goal from senior Nick Bailey with the assist from Rubin. The highlight of the evening was St. Mark’s third and final goal from junior Charlie Neal. After a foul by TCA, the Lions received a free kick just right of center of the goal from twenty-eight yards. Neal struck the dead ball so that it cleared the right side of the wall and found the upper right corner of the net. It was struck with such force that the TCA keeper never moved until the ball trickled down the inside of the net.
