Clark Hunt ’83 Named Commencement Speaker

On the evening of Thursday, May 26, the Class of 2022 will celebrate their Commencement. To help mark this milestone, the Senior Class, in consultation with the Headmaster, has selected Clark Hunt ’83 to deliver the Commencement Address.

“I'm excited to hear from Mr. Hunt about his experiences as an alumnus, father of an alumnus, and renowned business leader,” said Alex Geng ’22, Student Council President. “I look forward to seeing how he will blend all these perspectives into a message for our class.”

Clark Hunt has been a driving force behind the resurgence of the Kansas City Chiefs, where he serves as Chairman and CEO. Under Clark’s leadership, the Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV, though perhaps more poignant was their 2019 AFC Championship win. Following the Chief’s victory, Clark hoisted the Lamar Hunt Trophy, named for his father, who founded the Kansas City Chiefs and was a pioneering member of the National Football League. As Chairman of the Hunt Family Sports Group, Clark has also been a driving force in Major League Soccer and coordinates operations of FC Dallas, where his brother and St. Mark’s Trustee Dan Hunt ’96 serves as President.

“It is a privilege and an honor to have Clark Hunt ’83 address the Class of 2022 as this year’s Commencement Speaker,” said David W. Dini, Eugene McDermott Headmaster. “Clark’s many decades of service and devotion to our School and his leadership across the community serve as a powerful example for Marksmen of all ages. We look forward to what will undoubtedly be very meaningful guidance, wisdom, and perspective for this year’s graduates.”

Throughout his professional career, Clark Hunt has maintained close ties with St. Mark’s, serving on the Board of Trustees for more than a decade, including as Board President from 2018 to 2020. During his term, Clark led St. Mark’s through two unprecedented events: the tornado of October 2019 and the onset of the global pandemic. As a Trustee, Clark has followed in the footsteps of his father, Lamar Hunt, who was named a St. Mark’s Life Trustee in 1999. The Hunt Family’s deep commitment to the School is honored in the Norma & Lamar Hunt Family Stadium.

“Clark stayed mission-focused during those years and prevailed upon all of us to stay steadfast,” said Kathy Crow, current President of the Board of Trustees. “He has set the bar high for not only the adults here at St. Mark's but for the boys too.”

Clark will return to campus to deliver the Commencement Address one month after receiving the St. Mark’s 2022 Distinguished Alumnus Award at the Spring Alumni Dinner. Clark and his wife Tavia are the parents of Gracelyn, Knobel ’21, and Ava.
