Lions Sports Update 10/29

The Varsity Football team traveled to Greenhill on Friday night to take on the Hornets. The Hornets jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on their first drive behind some tough running by the Hornet Running Back. The Lions responded with some tough running of their own by seniors Justin Jones and Walter Johnson, who both found the end zone in the 1st quarter, making the score 14-7. The two battled to the very end, but when the dust cleared, the Lions came out on top by a score of 31-19. Jones had 129 yards and 2 TDs on the ground, Johnson added 85 yards rushing and 2 TDs, and William Caldwell ’16 caught 6 passes for 77 yards. The Lions travel to Houston this Saturday (4:00 p.m. kickoff) to take EHS in the first round of the SPC Large School playoffs. The winner of the game will get to play for the SPC Championship the following Friday (November 7) back here in Dallas in Jesuit’s Football Stadium against the winner of the All Saints (Ft. Worth)/Kinkaid (Houston) game.

The Varsity Volleyball team secured the #1 seed in the SPC North zone by winning two conference games last week against Trinity Valley and Ft. Worth Country day. The team will play two more home matches this week in preparation for the SPC Tournament which is on November 7-8 (Boys Volleyball will be played on the Greenhill campus). Come support the Lions on Tuesday against rival Greenhill, and then Thursday for Senior night against the Texas Boys Volleyball Association club team.

The Cross Country team took the weekend off to rest and recover from a tough stretch of races leading up to the SPC Championships. The Lions will run in a time trial at Norbuck Park this Friday to help determine the runners who will be competing at the SPC race. Norbuck will also be the site of the SPC Championships on Saturday, November 8.
