On Thursday, May 29, 2025, 102 young men donned white dinner jackets and took the stage in the Ida M. and Cecil H. Green Commencement Theater. As St. Mark’s recognized the incredible Marksmen of the Class of 2025, Eugene McDermott Headmaster David W. Dini presented the three major School prizes.
The Headmaster’s Cup is awarded by the Headmaster with the advice of the faculty to the senior who best exemplifies the traits that St. Mark’s seeks to foster in its students: the quest for excellence, intellectual curiosity and commitment, service to the School and community, and concern for others.
This Marksman has made the most of his twelve-year career at St. Mark’s, soaking up every experience and opportunity. One of his teachers said, “He’s a friend to all, an encouragement to underclassmen, and a quiet, strong leader for our community. He embodies the values we strive to instill in every Marksman, including strong character, discipline, and leadership by example. He’s well-rounded and equally comfortable leading from the front or the back.”
Another colleague commented, “Kind eyes, and a big heart. He’s an impact guy. His positive influence is a beacon of hope for the future.” Indeed it is.
Two-sport varsity captain and soon to be collegiate scholar-athlete, he’s represented our school well on and off the field. Habitat for Humanity, Student Alumni Association, TELOS, Lion & Sword, Marksmen Yearbook staff, and so much more. It is my great pleasure to present the 2025 Headmaster’s Cup to Henry Estes.
The School Flag is awarded by the faculty and presented by the Head of Upper School to a senior for loyalty, dedication and distinguished service to the School.
This year’s honoree is a young man who’s had a tremendous impact on our community. He’s come to campus every day determined to make a difference. A natural servant leader and role model for boys on every corner of campus, he’s taken the responsibility of his blue senior shirt seriously and consistently lifted St. Mark’s onto his shoulders.
A stellar scholar-athlete who will continue his sports career in college, he’s led our community and his classmates with strength, determination, and thoughtfulness. In and out of the classroom, he’s demonstrated what it means to be a Marksman, to simply be a good man.
Student Council, TELOS, Lion & Sword, IDLC, ReMarker staff, and so much more, we’ve looked to him for leadership at every turn, and he’s responded without fail. Middle School Cup Recipient, Ralph B. Rogers English Award, leader on the lacrosse field, Davey O’Brien Award Finalist, and this year’s Student Body President. Please join me in recognizing the 2025 recipient of the School Flag, Matthew Hofmann.
The J.B.H. Henderson Citizenship Cup is awarded by the faculty and presented by the Head of Upper School to the senior who has genuine concern for others and is dedicated to the ideals of honor and justice.
This twelve-year Marksman is one of the most highly respected, accomplished, and well-liked members of the Class of 2025. A stalwart leader in and out of the classroom, he exudes kindness and seeks to make a difference wherever he goes.
Thoughtful, determined, and resilient, he elevates every conversation and interaction. One colleague said, “A positive presence with an optimistic outlook, he has a strong work ethic and displays creativity and leadership in the classroom and beyond.”
Multi-sport athlete, TELOS, Lion & Sword, IDLC, Eagle Scout, Presidential Volunteer Service Award, Chinese Scholar, Congressional Youth Advisory Council, and active leader in the Journalism Suite, this Marksman has done it all and done it well, demonstrating courage and honor every step of the way. A young man of great faith and strength, he leaves this School better than he found it. It is an honor to present the J. B. H. Henderson Citizenship Cup to Lawrence Gardner.
Additionally, several students received Faculty Special Awards for living out the ideals of the School and contributing to the betterment of others. David W. Dini announced the following 2025 recipients:
Carson Bosita, Surya Dinesh, Cam Hurley, Wyatt Loehr, Aiden Moran, Lukas Palys, Hilton Sampson, Jediel Sarfo, Noah Williams, and Max Yan.
