Yearbook Dedicatee Announced

She keeps things moving when no one’s watching...
Knows us, our parents, and our interests...
Helps us step up, try new things, own our work, and find our confidence...
Because when one of us grows, we all rise.

These are among the words used to introduce the dedicatee of the 2025 Marksmen yearbook: student store manager Nancy Goldberg.

Goldberg joined the St. Mark’s family in 2004 as the mother of Henry ’16 and Owen ’21. In 2018, she joined the staff as manager of the student store. Over the past seven years, she has transformed the store into a true community hub, a central location where Marksmen, parents, alumni, and visitors find a warm welcome – and a fine selection of St. Mark’s swag. As she puts it, "the mission for the store is to be a welcoming place for all in our community.”

The dedication was announced at Marksmen Ball by yearbook editor-in-chief Teddy Fleiss ’25: “The theme of the 2025 yearbook is Rise, and Mrs. Goldberg epitomizes the idea of this book, and the helping hand that is the campus. What makes her truly exceptional is how she sees us — not just as students passing through, but as individuals with unique stories, challenges, and potential.”

Nancy Goldberg’s impact on the community goes far beyond the supplies and swag she sells. When campus shut down during the pandemic, Goldberg started an Instagram account for the store. Beyond showing off new items, the account has become another cornerstone of the community, as Goldberg spotlights parent volunteers, shares quotable “Overheard” moments, and explores unexpected connections between community members in her signature “Meet Cutes.” The account, much like the store, is another example of Goldberg’s constant focus on building community in all she does.

Goldberg would be attending her son’s college graduation the weekend of Marksmen Ball, so the staff decided to surprise her the week before.

Presenting Goldberg with the first copy of the 2025 yearbook, editor-in-chief Teddy Fleiss ’25 told her, “We just want to say thank you for all of your hard work in revitalizing the Student Store, being a friend and mentor to so many of us, and being the heartbeat of our school.”

Managing editors Henry Estes ’25 and Asher Babilla ’25 joined in surprising Goldberg.

“It was a consensus across our grade that you mean so much to the community, so we wanted to give this to you,” said Estes. “You mean so much on campus, and you give so much to us, so selflessly.”

The yearbook dedication goes on to read:

No one encompasses the helping hand of 10600 Preston Road’s community more than Student Store Director Nancy Goldberg. Goldberg works her hardest, under the radar, to make the student store one of the biggest hubs on campus, full of delicious snacks, beautifully designed and recognizable merchandise, and warm, personal greetings from Goldberg herself.
