The following recap was published on smremarker.com and written by Marshall Sudbury ’27.

Swimming
The Lions’ swim team entered the SPC swim and dive finals looking to claim their fourth consecutive championship. To start the day, the Lions finished second in the 200 yard medley relay, then senior Miller Martin finished third in the 200yd freestyle. Ilan Gunawardena took silver in the 50 yard freestyle, and Armaan Newaskar and Cade Daigle finished first and third respectively in the 100yd butterfly. Martin completed his second individual race of the day by finishing third in 100yd freestyle, followed by Ethan Wang finishing second in the 500yd freestyle. The 200 yd freestyle relay team of Judah Isaacs-Sodeye, Luke Nguyen, Daigle and Martin won their event by less than a second, securing crucial points for the team. Newhaskar won his second event in the 100yd backstroke, and Oliver Geheb finished second in the 100yd breaststroke. In the final event of the day, Martin, Newaskar, Gunawardena and Ethan Wang set the 4A 400yd freestyle relay with a final time of 3:06.
After all total points were tallied, the Lions finished first with 165 total team points, 37 more than runner-up St. Stephen’s. This marks the swim team's fourth consecutive SPC Championship!

Basketball
Lions’ basketball finished fourth in the SPC tournament after falling to the Greenhill Hornets, 73-65. The Lions started the game with a seven-point run, but the Hornets rallied to tie the game at 18 at the end of the first quarter. Lions’ senior guard Samuel Blumenthal hit two threes to start the second quarter as both offenses heated up. The Hornets held a slim lead for most of the quarter, taking a three-point lead into the half. Both teams grappled for control in the third as Hornets’ guard Jaxon Thompson drove into the paint for multiple dunks and lay-ups, while the Lions responded with several crucial threes to keep the game close. After Spencer Hopkins made a lay-up as time expired, the Lions entered the fourth still down only three. However, the Lions’ offense stuttered for just a few possession, allowing the Hornets to take an eight-point lead with just three minutes remaining. While the Lions hit a few shots down the stretch, the Hornets made their free throws and were able to hang on for the win.
With the lose, the Lions end the season with a strong record of 23-12.

Wrestling
Wrestling traveled to Fort Worth Country Day for SPC championships. Three freshmen competed for the Lions as Osi Akudo finished fourth while Kui Fine and Pete DeVoss both earned bronze in their respective weight class. Zach Golle and Holden Fritz also finished third in their groups, and Senior Beau Bacon won silver. Oliver Loehr and Jackson Barnes capped the day by winning their divisions. Overall, the team placed fourth in a highly competitive field.
A few select wrestlers will travel to Pennsylvania in the coming week for the National Prep Wrestling Championships.
