    David Baker has been a member of the St. Mark’s faculty since 1984 and is director of Admission & Financial Aid for the School. He received a B.A. degree from the University of Central Oklahoma and an M.L.S. degree from Southern Methodist University. Prior to becoming director of Admission and Financial Aid, Baker spent 16 years as the debate coach and public speaking instructor here. A member of the Texas Forensic Association Hall of Fame and the National Speech and Debate Association Hall of Fame, he also received the Thomas Glenn Pelham National Service Award from the National Speech and Debate Association in 2001 and the National Service award from the National Debate Coaches Association in 2003. Baker, whose son Evan graduated in ‘07, received the John H. Murrell Excellence in Teaching Award in 1989.

    Bringing eight years experience as a building engineer and four years as an electrician’s apprentice, Duane Barnhart is assistant director of the physical plant. A graduate of Brainerd High School in Minnesota, he has completed several courses in computers and electronics at Southwest College and has attended continuing education courses on boilers, asbestos awareness and the national electrical code. He began his St. Mark’s career in July 2001.

    Having joined the faculty in 2020, Gregory Bergeron is a member of the Mathematics Department, where he teaches classes in mathematics to seventh graders. He’s a seventh grade adviser and coaches eighth grade volleyball. Bergeron holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisiana-Monroe and a master’s degree in counseling from Amberton University. Prior to joining St. Marks, Bergeron taught for 30 years, including two years in the Ouachita Parish School System in Louisiana, nine years in the Little Cypress-Mauriceville school district in Orange and the last 19 years in the Highland Park ISD. During his time at HPHS, Bergeron taught high school math, coached the women’s soccer team and the Academic Decathlon team.

    A member of the Marksman Wellness Center team, Dr. Mary Bonsu began her St. Mark’s career in 2020 and currently serves as psychologist and Upper School counselor. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern Methodist University and both master’s and doctoral degrees from Regent University. Before coming to St. Mark’s, Dr. Bonsu worked as a pediatric psychologist at Children’s Health. She serves as an adviser in the 11th-12th grade class rotation and sponsors the Mindful4Life Club.

    Before joining St. Mark’s, Bryan Boucher taught and coached for 14 years in several public schools in Connecticut, Georgia and Texas. A member of the History and Social Sciences Department, he teaches classes in AP U.S. history and AP microeconomics, and is co-sponsor in the junior and senior class advisory rotations. After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Connecticut College, he completed a two year fellowship program with the United States Golf Association before beginning his career as an educator. With a master’s degree from the University of North Texas, he has been awarded the Ackerman Character Education Award at St. Mark’s in 2021 and was recognized as an “Outstanding Educator” from the University of Chicago, based on student recommendations. Boucher has served as an AP reader for various subjects since 2011 and previously worked as an AP regional consultant.

    Ryan Brewer began his St. Mark’s career in 2020 and currently serves as biology and life science teacher as a member of the Science Department. Brewer earned his bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College and a master’s degree in education from the University of North Florida. Before joining St. Mark’s, he taught biology at The Bolles School in Jacksonville, FL and also served as a basketball coach and a member of the residential life staff. Brewer serves as an Upper School class sponsor and coaches JV basketball and Middle School football.

    A member of the Lower School faculty and first grade teacher, Teri Broom began her St. Mark’s career in 2006. She earned her B.A. degree from Virginia Tech University. Before coming to St. Mark’s, Broom taught in the Coppell ISD, at the Lamplighter School and other schools. Broom serves on the first-grade admission committee and has received both the John H. Murrell Excellence in Teaching Award and the Ackerman Character Education Award. She is the wife of alum Christopher Broom ‘87 and mom to two Marksmen, Kent ‘16 and Blake ‘21.

    Holding the Victor F. White Master Teaching Chair in English, David Brown joined the St. Mark’s faculty in 1999. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Oral Roberts University, a Master of Arts degree from San Diego State University and an MFA from Pennsylvania State University. Before joining St. Mark’s, Brown taught English and served as language arts coordinator for grades 1-12 in the Highland Park Independent School District. He also directs St. Mark’s annual Literary Festival and sponsors the Chess Club. Brown received the Ralph B. Rogers Alumni Award in 2020 and was the Marksmen yearbook dedicatee in 2012. He has twice delivered the Baccalaureate faculty address.

    With a distinctive voice familiar to Lion sports fans, Robert “Doc” Browning has been the announcer for varsity basketball games and lacrosse matches for decades. He’s a member of the Athletic Department, where he serves as athletic trainer and teaches Lower School physical education. “Doc” earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from North Carolina State University and served in the U.S. Army, with an honorable discharge in 1975. He previously served as head athletic trainer at Rhodes College in Memphis and is a nationally certified athletic trainer. Browning has been the recipient of the John H. Murrell Excellence in Teaching Award in 1994, the Ralph B. Rogers Alumni Award in 2007 and the Ackerman Character Education Award in 2015.

    Dr. Lauren Brozovich began her St. Mark’s career in 2021 and currently teaches courses in AP English language, freshman English and AP English. Brozovich earned her A.B. from Harvard College, and A.M. and Ph.D. degrees from Harvard University. Before joining St. Mark’s, Dr. Brozovich taught English at Deerfield Academy and Phillips Academy. She also was a tenure-track professor of English at The University of Houston where she taught both undergraduate and graduate courses on American literature, poetry and ecocriticism. Dr. Brozovich serves as faculty co-sponsor of The Marque and the Advanced Poetry Analysis Club. At Phillips Academy, Brozovich received the Elizabeth Rogers Teaching Fellowship and at Harvard University, she received the Thomas Temple Hoopes Prize for Excellence in the Art of Teaching and a Harvard University Certificate of Distinction in Teaching. For her Ph.D. studies, she received an Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship in humanistic studies from the Woodrow Wilson Foundation.

    Natalie Bumpas has been a member of the School’s athletics staff since 2020 and currently serves as athletic trainer. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Iowa. Before coming here, Bumpas served as an associate athletic trainer at Northwestern University and as an assistant athletic trainer at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. She also interned for the New York Mets during the 2011 season. Bumpas is nationally certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Board of Certification, and has been a member of NATA since 2004. She is also a licensed athletic trainer in the state of Texas and recently became certified in Graston Technique for soft tissue mobilization.

    A member of the College Counseling team since 2020, Phoebe Butler is associate director of College Counseling. Butler earned her bachelor’s degree from New York University, an M.A. degree from Columbia University and an M.P.A. from New York University. Before joining St. Mark’s, she worked in undergraduate admissions at NYU and Pace University. Butler serves as a ninth-grade adviser and sponsors the Public Speaking Club. She holds membership in the National Association for College Admission Counseling, the Texas Association for College Admission Counseling and thenAssociation of College Counselors in Independent Schools.
