Football Last Friday, the Lions traveled to The Woodlands to face John Cooper in their SPC 4A opener, earning a hard-fought 24-17 victory in steady rain. The Lions were led by a resilient defensive effort, bending but rarely breaking throughout the night. Reid Smith recorded six quarterback pressures, recovered a fumble, and returned an interception for a touchdown. Five Lions finished with double-digit tackles: Mac Saye (18), JT Teinert (15), Tobias Pulido (12), Blaine Henley (12), and Cameron Steinbrueck (11). The defense also recorded six sacks, led by Brooks Main (2.5), A.J. Thomas (1.5), Marshall Sudbury (1), and Roman Lewis (1). Baron Stanley forced a fumble recovered by Steinbrueck, while Jax Blalock added two critical pass breakups. Offensively, David Dickson rushed 16 times for 113 yards and a game-sealing touchdown behind a strong offensive line. Wyatt Hanson led the receivers with four catches for 59 yards and a touchdown, including an impressive one-handed grab. Henry McGill and the special teams contributed four touchbacks, a field goal, and two booming punts. The Lions look to build on this team effort Friday at 7 p.m. against Kinkaid at Hunt Stadium.
Cross Country For the second consecutive year, weather forced the cancellation of the Jesuit Fall Classic, prompting an alternative meet on the track at Hunt Family Stadium. Ten schools brought 242 athletes to compete in either the 5K or 3,200-meter race. The Lions delivered an impressive showing in the fast heat of the 5K, led by William Cho (2nd, 15:42), Nicholas Cho (3rd, 15:42), Jackson Bailey (4th, 15:52), George Brown (5th, 15:52), Garet Tydlaska (7th, 16:12), Ward Bealey (9th, 16:27), Lawson Ruby (15th, 16:53), and Tristan Kachmar (22nd, 17:20). Although the results do not count toward official cross country records, the Lions demonstrated strong fitness and excellent pack racing.
