The St. Mark’s grapplers defeated strong teams from Bishop Lynch and Kinkaid to secure the state team crown. After qualifying eleven wrestlers into the championship finals, the St. Mark’s team held off a determined Bishop Lynch team in an exciting conclusion to the tournament. Faced with five head to head matches, the Lions came through with strong performances from the entire team to defeat the second place Bishop Lynch team by eight points. Zach Ramsey, Dunc Fulton, Sam Zakhour, Julian Nacol, Garrett Collier, and Stephen Unterberg all claimed individual championships, with Unterberg being named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler in the heavyweight category. Runner-up honors went to Vincent Tenorio, Jason Scovell, Travis Pena, John Stewart, and Daniel Branch. Congratulations to Coach Rick Ortega and the wrestling team for another impressive performance.
