Opening Day

The first day of school for the 2008-2009 year held much excitement – not only for the new senior class and wide-eyed first graders, but for everyone in the St. Mark’s community. After a year full of construction and demolition, the new facilities stood open and ready for business.

Following the Opening Convocation, students processed through the center of campus from Hicks Family Athletic Center to the new Centennial Hall. A brief ribbon-cutting ceremony, which included Headmaster Arnie Holtberg, Board of Trustees President George Bayoud ’73, former Board Presidents Robert Sinclair ’74, and Ross Perot ’77, and trustee Wallace Hall ’80, cleared the way for the senior class to enter Centennial Hall for the first time. Walking through the main hallway and out the east wing, students continued their way down the path to the Robert K. Hoffman Center, where one last ribbon was cut to signify the building’s opening. All students, faculty, and staff took this proud walk through the campus before falling into the pace of the day.
