Lion Sports Update (Oct. 21)

Football
Last Friday, the Lions hosted Episcopal High School on a brisk fall evening. The first half was a defensive battle, with both teams making big plays as the Lions struggled to move the ball. The Lions forced four turnovers, including an interception by Ford Robinson and fumble recoveries by Roman Lewis, Brooks Main, and Blaine Henley. Five Lions recorded double-digit tackles: Mac Saye (18), Tobias Pulido (12), JT Teinert (12), Ford Robinson (12), and Blaine Henley (10).

Offensively, the Lions rallied from a 17-0 deficit entering the fourth quarter, scoring three touchdowns and setting up a potential game-winning drive in the final two minutes. Charlie Aisner and Archer Wilburn each recorded six receptions, while Donnell Dickson, Blaize Schuhmacher, and Nick Kiehn scored touchdowns to cap off well-executed drives. Ultimately, the Lions’ comeback fell just short when the Knights intercepted a pass in the final minute to secure a 24-21 victory. The Lions will host their final home game of the season this Friday, welcoming the St. John’s Mavericks for Homecoming and Senior Night at 7 p.m.

Volleyball
The varsity volleyball team faced two tough SPC counter matches last week. On Tuesday, the Lions traveled to Trinity Valley, where they battled through a challenging match, taking one set before falling 3-1. On Friday, the Lions hosted Greenhill in front of a large crowd. After the Hornets claimed the opening set, the Lions rallied to win the next three, securing a 3-1 victory. The Lions are now 3-3 in SPC play and will host two more SPC counter matches this week against Kinkaid on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Awty on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Water Polo
The varsity water polo team traveled to California last weekend to face some of the top teams in the country. Although the Lions finished 0-4, the competition provided valuable experience and helped strengthen the team heading into the postseason. Next, the Lions will host the TISCA State Championship on October 23–24. Games are scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at either 9 or 10:15 a.m. Come out and support the Lions as they look to finish a strong season!

Cross Country
The varsity cross country team had last weekend off as it prepares for its final two events of the season. This Saturday, October 24, the Lions will travel to Austin for the St. Andrew’s Invitational, where they will compete against many of the SPC teams they will face at the upcoming SPC Championships.
