VOLLEYBALL
Last week, the Lions volleyball team had two tough home matches against SPC foes Trinity Valley and Greenhill. On Thursday against TVS, the team fought hard but was unable to get much going throughout the match, falling in straight sets. The following night, the Lions faced Greenhill in front of a packed gym thanks to the home football game that same evening. It was a long five-set match, and the Lions were able to outlast Greenhill, winning convincingly in the final set. This week, the Lions host DASCHE on Tuesday and travel to Greenhill for a rematch, this time on the Hornets’ Homecoming night.
CROSS COUNTRY
The varsity cross country team competed at the Lovejoy Fall Festival at Myers Park in McKinney, Texas. Jackson Bailey, 21st (15:58); William Cho, 26th (16:05); Nicholas Cho, 31st (16:06); George Brown, 32nd (16:09); Garet Tydlaska, 65th (16:37); Ward Beasley, 74th (16:47); Lawson Ruby, 100th (17:02); Tristin Kachmar, 133rd (17:30); and Josh Nunez, 147th (17:38), all ran personal bests, helping the Lions place fourth out of 29 teams in the Varsity Elite race. The JV squad of Preston Bailey, 10th (17:48); Charles Shea, 17th (18:06); Alex Marczewski, 27th (18:27); Graham Selzer, 33rd (18:42); Christopher Huang, 50th (19:03); and Tim Strauss, 55th (19:10), also all ran personal bests, helping the Lions to a fourth-place finish in the JV race. This Saturday, the Lions travel to Oak Point, Texas, for the Jesuit Fall Classic, weather and course conditions permitting.
FOOTBALL
Over the past two weeks, the Lions football team has notched back-to-back victories. On September 18, the Lions traveled locally to Covenant and defeated the Knights, 52-6. After giving up an early touchdown, the Lions scored 52 unanswered points, finding the end zone on offense, defense, and special teams. Mac Saye and Cameron Steinbrueck returned interceptions for touchdowns, while Roman Lewis recovered a fumbled kickoff and took it into the end zone. Offensively, the Dickson brothers combined for 161 yards and two touchdowns. Blaize Schuhmacher completed 15 of 23 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns to the Aisner brothers. Ten Lions caught passes on the night. Last week, the Lions hosted Grapevine Faith and found themselves down 9-7 in the second quarter. The Lions rallied to score 41 points and finish with a 48-16 victory. The Dickson brothers combined for 155 rushing yards and one touchdown each, while Charlie Aisner caught six passes for 180 yards and three touchdowns from Blaize Schuhmacher. The Lions’ defense also gave the offense short fields, as Mac Saye and Reid Smith both intercepted passes deep in Grapevine Faith territory. The 4-1 Lions head to John Cooper Friday night to take on the Dragons.
WATER POLO
The varsity water polo team did not compete last week. The Lions have one game this Saturday against Keller at 9 a.m. at home in Levering Pool.
