New Head of Upper School Announced

After an extensive national search, Colin Igoe has been selected to serve as St. Mark’s School of Texas’ next Head of Upper School. A highly respected and experienced educator, Colin is a member of the faculty and administration at Lawrence Academy in Groton, Massachusetts, where he has served as Dean of Academics and Dean of Faculty, AP English teacher, head soccer and skiing coach, dorm parent, advisor, and leader of the school's "Winterim" experiential learning program. In his role as a senior administrator at Lawrence Academy, Colin has been responsible for the school’s faculty recruitment and retention programs, faculty evaluations, professional development opportunities for teachers, and been involved in many school-wide initiatives and governance activities. Lawrence Academy, founded in 1793, is a co-educational boarding and day school that serves more than 400 students in grades nine through twelve.

"I am honored and humbled to join the St. Mark's community," Colin said. "From my very first interactions, I have been impressed by the clarity of mission and strength of values that so clearly guide all aspects of school life. My family and I would like to thank all the members of the St. Mark's community for the care and warmth we have felt throughout this process, and I personally express my deepest gratitude for this opportunity."

Prior to his tenure at Lawrence Academy, Colin enjoyed successful stints teaching English at Stratton Mountain School and the Ayutthayanusorn School in Thailand. Colin also serves on the Board of Trustees at Parker Charter School in Massachusetts. He holds a B.A. in English from Wheaton College, an M.S. in Education from St. Joseph’s University, and an M.A. from Middlebury College's Bread Loaf School of English. Colin enjoys soccer, skiing, running, hiking, reading, writing, and travel. In the summer of 2013, Colin and his wife, Molly, traveled to twelve countries throughout Europe and Southeast Asia.

Colin will visit campus this week and several more times in the coming months to visit with students, teachers, and parents, before transitioning to Dallas with his wife Molly and their two young boys. Colin will formally assume his new role as Head of Upper School on July 1, 2019.

In his announcement to the community, Eugene McDermott Headmaster David W. Dini thanked Associate Headmaster John Ashton, who has served as Interim Head of Upper School this year, as well as the members of the Head of Upper School search committee whose collective leadership resulted in such an outstanding appointment.
