Basketball
The Varsity Basketball team competed in two games last week. On Tuesday, the Anglican Church Grammar School from Brisbane, Australia made a special appearance in Hicks Gym. This year marks the 3rd bi-annual visit “Churchie” has made to St. Mark’s. Twenty-seven players stayed two nights with St. Mark’s host families and spent time taking in the sights around the metroplex. On the court, Churchie proved to be quite a unique matchup. The pace of the game was very fast, and the halftime score looked like many of our end-of-game scores, 47-41. In the second half, however, the Lions ended the game with a 87-67 victory. On Friday night, the Lions traveled to Faith Family. St. Mark’s relinquished a late lead and lost in overtime. This week, St. Mark’s plays three games – Tuesday at Irving Nimitz (7:30pm), Friday at Highland Park (4:00pm), and Saturday at Decatur (1:00pm).

Soccer
The Varsity Soccer team hosted Casady (OKC) last Friday night in a non-counter game. The match was competitive with both teams creating several scoring opportunities that required crucial saves from the goalkeepers at both ends. Although possession vacillated thoughout, each team produced extended periods of possession but solid defense in the second half ensured that neither team would earn the game winner. On Monday night, the Lions played Ft. Worth Country Day in another SPC non-counter. The team started well, dictating the speed of play from the opening kickoff that lead to a second minute goal by Nolan Jenevein ’17. Sam Eichenwald ’16 tended the net confidently while Cam Lam ’16, Corday Cruz ’17, Teddy Koudelka ’17, Grant Brooks ’17, and Will Diamond ’16 tightened their defense to deny FWCD and scoring opportunities. The first half ended with the Lion’s crowning moment of the match: an adept combination play that saw several players work the ball quickly up the right flank producing a left-footed goal on the far right post by Kabeer Singh ’18 when he finished Alex Sanchez ‘16 crossed from Graham Gillespie ’16 well-weighted through ball. Shortly into the second half, Arjun Singh’18 at a run which resulted in a foul. Alex Sanchez deftly slotted his penalty kick past the Country Day keeper. Twenty minutes form full time, Daniel Chavez ’17 assisted Charlie O’Brien ’16 whose decisive strike finished the evenings scoring. Lions 4 – FWCD 0. The team plays again on Thursday at Greenhill (7:00 p.m.).

Wrestling
