The Future of Athletics Revealed

St. Mark’s is excited to share an update on the substantial progress made toward a new and expanded Athletic Complex that will replace the facilities destroyed by the devastating tornado that struck campus in October 2019. After several years of extensive planning and preparation, the School is excited to move forward with the most ambitious construction project in St. Mark’s history and make a once-in-a-generation investment in our athletics program.

“This will be the final and by far the most significant chapter in the story that has unfolded over the past several years since the tornado,” said David W. Dini, Eugene McDermott Headmaster, in a letter to the community. “Like many businesses and families that were severely impacted, St. Mark’s will emerge from this unique challenge not just intact, but significantly stronger.”

While the final planning details and funding for the project are not yet completed, several families have already stepped forward to provide important financial leadership for this project. Consistent with longstanding policy, 100 percent of the total project costs must be secured before construction can commence. With roughly two-thirds of the Athletic Complex funds already secured, the School is confident this goal will be reached prior to the anticipated groundbreaking in the summer of 2023.

As detailed on the new Athletic Complex Project microsite, this project will not just be a dramatic expansion of our athletic facilities, but also support a variety of major improvements for parking, campus safety, community life, land use and more. Throughout the planning process, St. Mark’s has maintained close communication with its neighbors and the city of Dallas to ensure that this project will not only strengthen the experience for every Marksman, but also contribute to the well-being of the surrounding community.

“I hope that after learning more about this historic project you will be as excited as we are about what it will mean for current and future generations of Marksmen,” Dini said. “As with the new Winn Science Center and renovated McDermott-Green Science Building project just five years ago, the new Athletic Complex will be a significant step forward for the St. Mark’s community and support our commitment to help every boy reach his full potential.”
