Golf:The St. Mark’s golf team overcame a five-shot deficit to win the SPC 4A golf tournament. The golfers combined for 303 total strokes, two strokes better than yesterday, to claim the championship. Additionally, Duff McKay won a three-hole playoff to secure the individual title. Sam Merryman and James Hoak also tied for seventh in individual scores.
Baseball:
After lightning delays suspended their game until Saturday, the baseball team took the field for their final game of the year versus Greenhill. After giving up eight runs early, the Lions’ offense tried to claw their way back into the game. Senior Jack Frary led the team with three hits, including a double and a triple. However, the Greenhill lead was too much to overcome as the Lions lost 8 – 3, and the team finished the season with a 10 – 13 record.
Tennis:
The Lions’ tennis team returned to Houston Christian on Saturday to take on Kinkaid in the third-place game of the 4A SPC Tennis Championship. The squad played a series of close matches, but ultimately fell to the Falcons by a score of 3 – 2. The team finished the year with a strong 9 – 3 overall record, and will now look to the future with every player from this year’s team returning next season.
Track and Field:
The track team completed their second and final day of events at the SPC Championships. Starting in the 4 x 100m relay, Mateu Parker, Max Bean, Riggs Bean, and Alden Reagins finished fifth with a time of 44.58 seconds. In the 800m, Harman Pope ran a 2:04 to finish seventh. Riggs Bean, Reagins, and Jack Levy all competed in the 100m dash, with Bean recording a top ten finish with a time of 11.12 seconds. Tripp Schoellkopf, Will Steinbrueck, and Zach Andrews ran the 400m, where Steinbruck and Andrews set personal records of 52.67 and 53.03, respectively. In the 200m, Riggs Bean recorded another top ten finish and Andrews finished thirteenth. Noah Roby, Harman Pope, and Jackson Bailey all finished in the top eight of the 1600m, and all three also set personal records. Bailey ran a 4:36, while Pope ran a 4:33, and Roby ran a 4:26 to secure himself the bronze medal. In the final of event of the meet, the 4 x 400m squad of Reagins, Riggs Bean, Steinbrueck, and Schoellkopf secured bronze with a final time of 3:30. Overall the track and field team finished sixth and the tournament with a total score of 68. The team will now continue to train in the offseason with hopes of an even stronger performance next year.
