At the recent Area C regional competition, St. Mark's Latin students came away with lots of awards including a trip by the Upper Certamen team to the State Convention. This area convention, held on February 4th at Van Allstyne High School saw the St. Mark's Novice Certamen eliminated on points, Lower Certamen in second place, and Upper Certamen victorious in first place. John Kee ’06, Will Travis ’06, Amaan Mitha ’08, and Dhruv Singhal ’08 will represent Area C in Pflugerville on March 31 at the State Latin Convention.
Beginners Austin Mora ’11, D'Arda Hayes ’09, and Shashank Mittall ’11 won first place awards in Latin Derivatives, Mottoes, Ancient Geography, and Dramatic Interpretation. Natan Rosenthal ’10, Shashwat Samudra ’10, Doug Jones ’10, Jack Gannon ’9, Luis Garcia ’10 and Cole McCrum ’10 also scored first places at Latin IB. Nathan Long ’09, Abhiram Gunturi ’09, Michael Poma-McPherson ’09, Brad Travis ’09, and Conner Pate ’09, also earned first places at Level II. At Level III, Amaan Mitha ’08 won first in Mythology, Dhruv Singhal ’08 won a double first in Roman and Greek History, and Wayne Mitchell ’08 and Aaron Jasny ’06 also scored firsts in Dramatic Interpretation and Reading Comprehension, while Eric Rosenbaum ’07 scored first in Latin Derivatives IV. At Level V, John Kee ’06 was first in Roman History, and he and Will Travis ’06 tied for first place in Reading Comprehension. In Dramatic Interpretation 1/2B Zach Jolly ’10 and Cole McCrum ’10 tied for 1st place. In Decathlon V, Will Travis ’06 came in first place.
