Lion Sports Update (02/19)

BASEBALL
The Varsity baseball team opened its season on the road at Shelton this past Friday afternoon. Although the squad faced falling temps and a blustery north wind throughout the contest, the Lions bats came out blazing, staking the pitching staff with a 3-run lead in the first inning. Seven of the nine starters and two of the three reserves had at least one hit, with juniors John Stephen Hohmann (2 hits, 1 run, 3 RBIs) and Jackson Williams (2 hits, 2 runs, 1 RBI) leading the offense against the Chargers. Impressively, the SM batters only struck out twice as a team while amassing 6 walks, 10 hits, and 12 runs on the game. Equally encouraging, the three-headed pitching staff of starter Jackson Williams, sophomore middle reliever Jackson Ostella, and junior closer Lucas Petrikas dazzled in a combined one-hit gem in the 12-3 victory despite giving up three runs (2 earned) on eight total walks and two fielding errors on one play in the OF by the defense. St. Mark's will be back in action on Tuesday at 4:00 pm for its home opener vs. TACA.

CREW, GOLF, LACROSSE, TENNIS and TRACK & FIELD
The varsity crew, golf, lacrosse, tennis, and track & field teams officially began their seasons last week.  The crew team travels to Austin for their first event at the Heart of Texas Regatta this Friday through Sunday, the track & field team competes in the Greenhill Relays on Saturday, and 6 of our wrestlers travel to Lehigh University in Pennsylvania for the Prep National tournament this weekend.
