Lion Sports Update 10/17

Volleyball
The varsity volleyball team played one SPC North Zone counter match last week. On Saturday morning, the Lions hosted the Casady Cyclones from Oklahoma City. The Lions started slow, dropping the first set 17-25, but bounced back to win a close second set (25-22) and cruise through sets three (25-16) and four (25-18). The Lions are now 3-2 in the SPC North Zone, which lands them in second place. This week will give the Lions a chance to work on improving, with lots of practice and just one game against TBVA on Friday on the road.

Football
The varsity football team traveled to Houston on Friday night to take on the Episcopal High School Knights. The Knight struck first, scoring a TD on a short run. The Lions answered with a 66-yard run by Jonathan Taylor to tie the score at 7. EHS was able to control the game in the second quarter, scoring two TDs to just a field goal for the Lions. At the half, the Lions trailed 10-21. The second half was an even contest, with both teams scoring one more TD. The Lions got theirs on a Colin Neuhoff to Blake Rogers 4-yard pass. The Lions are now 3-3 on the season and 1-3 in SPC 4A play. They are off this week and will resume play on the road against Greenhill on October 26.

Cross Country
The varsity cross country team had their races washed out (again) due to the rainy weather in DFW this past weekend. That makes 3 races that the team has now missed due to this wetter than normal fall season. The team is hoping to find a replacement race for this weekend.

ALUMNI ATHLETE NEWS
Travis Nadalini ’15, a member of the Sewanee Tigers Football team, has started 6 games at offensive left tackle for the Tigers (3-4) this season. Travis has also been named to the Southern Athletic Association’s All-Academic Team in each of his first 3 seasons for the Tigers.

Sam Acho ’07, a linebacker for the Chicago Bears, suffered a torn pectoral muscle in week 5 and has been placed on injured reserve effectively ending his 2018 NFL season. We wish Sam a speedy recovery.

Ty Montgomery ’11 and the Green Bay Packers are featured on Monday Night Football this week. Make sure to tune in and cheer on #88 as they face the San Francisco 49ers. Ty plays running back and is in some of the special teams packages.
