Lion Sports Update 09/17

Cross Country
The varsity cross country team added the Ken Garland CC meet at the last minute and they are glad they did. The varsity team ran with strength and power and won the meet in convincing fashion. The Lions were led by senior captain Seth Weprin (2nd overall) and junior Pablo Arroyo (3rd overall), with Andres Arroyo (12th), Tyler Nussbaumer (21st), Julian Ivarra (28th) and senior captain George Lamb (35th) rounding out the top six St. Mark’s runners. Their final team score of 66 points bested the field by 9 points. This week the team competes in a tough Lovejoy CC Festival at Myers Park in McKinney. Varsity race begins at 7:55 am.

Volleyball
The varsity volleyball team had two matches this past week. The Lions hosted the SPC defending champion Greenhill Hornets on Tuesday. The Lions played well and defeated the Hornets by a score of 3-1. On Friday, the Lions traveled to Oklahoma City to face Casady in their first SPC counter game of the season. The Lions fell behind early and dropped set 1 by a score of 20-25. Fortunately, the Lions bounced back in a strong way, winning sets 2 (25-20) and 3 (25-13). In the 4th set, the Lions fell behind early and despite closing the lead late in the set, they were unable to finish off the Cyclones which led to the 5th and deciding set. The Lions fell behind early, but tied the game at 8. However, the team could not pull off the final set victory, losing 11-15. This week, the Lions host Trinity Valley on Monday at 6:30 pm in Hicks Gym.
