Top Photographers

For the 12th consecutive year, St. Mark’s Photography has been named the “Top Program” by the Association of Texas Photography Instructors. The “Top Program” award is given by a panel of six judges who evaluate and rank portfolio submissions from both public and private schools. Schools submit three, ten-image portfolios in various categories and are awarded points by the panel. This year, St. Mark’s submitted portfolios in Portraiture, Landscape, and Architecture. The photos represent a wide variety of locales, from Dallas to Paris to Bhutan, as Marksmen photographers traveled the world in search of unique shots.

“Once again, St. Mark’s photography students demonstrated a sophistication of vision and a mastery of technique,” said St. Mark’s photography instructor Scott Hunt, Arnold E. Holtberg Master Teaching Chair. “I stress to the boys that our goal is to make photographs rather than take pictures, and that photography is, at its core, visual communication. My hope is that they learn to use the camera as a catalyst for discovery and that with an intentional approach they can share those discoveries with the rest of us in a meaningful and engaging manner.”

Students whose work was represented in this year’s submission include Houston Engleman ’18, William Hall ’18, Kabeer Singh ’18, Tucker Ribman ’18, Kevin Feng ’18, Riley Sanders ’18, Christopher McElhaney ’18, Jonathan Taylor ’19, Kyle Smith ’19, Adnan Khan ’19, Chase Honaker ’19, Nick Kowalske ’20, Jerry Zhao ’21, and Collin Katz ’21.
