Community Celebrates the Season

On the morning of December 15, 2017, the entire St. Mark’s student body gathered in the W. W. Browning, Jr., Great Hall with faculty, staff, parents, and alumni for the annual All-School Christmas Party. Students applauded as the senior class entered, carrying their Lower School buddies on their shoulders, recalling the iconic Path to Manhood statue and our mission. After each buddy placed his ornament on the tree, Student Council President Canyon Kyle ’18 announced the successful completion of the Student Council and Community Service Board Gift Drive, which collected more than 2,880 gifts for local non-profits. Major Jon Rich, Salvation Army DFW Metroplex Commander, thanked the St. Mark’s community for their generosity.

“I have a feeling that the smiles of the faces of the children who receive these gifts were matched by the smiles of those giving the gifts,” Major Rich said. “Those who are able to give to others are truly blessed.”

Before dismissing School for the Christmas break, Eugene McDermott Headmaster David Dini left the boys with a few thoughts about the holidays: “In recent weeks, the sights and sounds of the holidays have been all around us, from concerts and Banner Chapel to Lessons & Carols and the decorations on the Quad. While we celebrate this season in different ways, the meaning is universal: never underestimate the difference you can make in the lives of others.”
