Mr. Foxworth Receives Rogers Award

On Friday, May 19, 2017, at Upper School Final Assembly, Warren Foxworth ’66, retiring Head of Middle School, was awarded the Ralph B. Rogers Alumni Award. The award honors the legacy of Ralph B. Rogers, the Rogers family, and the St. Mark’s faculty.

Warren entered St. Mark’s as a fifth grader in the fall of 1958, graduated from the School in 1966, and eventually returned to teach in 1980. Since that time, he has taught English and humanities, sponsored the Student Council and the yearbook, led the Stock Market Club, the Development Office, and most recently, served as Head of the Middle School. A self-described product of “The Wonder Years,” Warren has tirelessly sought to give Middle School boys a healthy sense of perspective at a time in their development when the world can seem confusing and overwhelming. In the words of a 7th grade advocate, “he cheers me up,” and “he greets everyone with a smile, and will talk to anyone as if they were his best friend.”

The three finalists for the Rogers Award, including Warren, Kevin Dilworth, and David Brown, were announced at Spring Alumni Dinner in April. Speaking about Warren, Rogers Award Committee Chair Chris Winn ’97 said, “After 37 years of joyful service to the St. Mark’s community, it will be difficult for students and parents alike to come visit 10600 Preston Road and not be greeted by his smiling face and colorful neckties, both of which are one-of-a-kind.”

The Ralph B. Rogers Alumni Award was established by the St. Mark’s Alumni Association in 1998 to honor faculty and staff for their pioneering contributions to the school community in academic, athletic and extracurricular areas that go above and beyond the confines of their job descriptions, thus extending the boundaries of the learning experience for St. Mark’s students.
