Freshman Wins Chinese Competition

On Sunday, April 23, 2017, Sam Ahmed ’20 won first place at the Chinese Bridge Proficiency Competition for the Southern Region, United States. Contestants had to demonstrate their proficiency by delivering a two-minute speech in Chinese, answering questions about Chinese language and culture, and giving a three-minute artistic performance. For his portion, Sam performed a routine using a diabolo, commonly known as a Chinese yo-yo.

In October, Sam will travel to China to represent the United States in the worldwide competition. The "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition is a large-scale international contest sponsored by the Office of Chinese Language Council International and is well-known in the cultural and educational exchanges worldwide.
