Cum Laude Society Induction

On Wednesday, April 26, 2017, St. Mark’s held its annual Cum Laude Society induction ceremony. Ten members from the Class of 2017 and ten members from the Class of 2018 were selected to join this Society in recognition of their outstanding academic achievement. As per the Society’s constitution, up to one-fifth of the senior class and one-tenth of the junior class can be inducted.

Congratulations to seniors Josh Bandopadhay, Bryce Blinn, Cameron Bossalini, John Crawford, Killian Green, Gordon Gunn, Kaden Han, Jonathan Libby, Shailen Parmar, and Thomas Zhang and to juniors Abdullah Akbar, Davis Bailey, Ben Clayman, Kevin Feng, Andrew Li, Kannan Sharma, Niteesh Vemuri, Harris Wilson, Allan Zhang, and Jesse Zhong.

After the new members were inducted, Eric Kusin ’00 addressed the students, faculty, and parents. He spoke about how the values of hard work and integrity he learned at St. Mark’s prepared him for the later challenges in his life.

“With the privilege of attending St. Mark’s comes the incredible responsibility both to hold yourself accountable to the standards you set for yourself and to lead the community you find yourself a part of,” Eric said. “Communities need leadership and you are positioned to fill that role.”

Eric Kusin has been a devoted supporter of St. Mark’s Alumni Association since the moment he graduated from USC. An engaged alumnus and long-time Class Agent, he helped launch and lead the Austin Regional Committee while earning his JD/MBA at the University of Texas. After moving back to Dallas, Eric joined the Alumni Board in 2010 and has been an active leader in the School community. Eric and his brother Ben ’97 gained national attention last year for appearing on ABC’s Shark Tank, securing an investment for their company, Reviver. Eric brought the wisdom and business sense he gained from his experience back to St. Mark’s, speaking to current students just a few weeks after the show aired.

Since receiving its Cum Laude Society charter in 1959, the St. Mark’s School of Texas chapter has inducted more than 550 men, a legacy commemorated in the Cum Laude stained glass window in the narthex of the St. Mark’s Chapel.
