Several wrestlers competed in the National Prep Championships this past weekend at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. Junior Tucker Ribman competed in the 126 lb. division while junior Will Wood competed in the 106 lb. division and finished in the top 16 nationally in his weight class.
Lacrosse The varsity lacrosse team hosted St. Stephen’s on Friday night in the first SPC counter game of the season. The Lions won 18-4 and the scoring was very balanced. Twelve different Marksmen scored on the night and 13 of the 18 goals were assisted. Sophomores Conner Cheetham (1 goal), Parker Clark (1 goal & 1 assist), Will Kozmetsky (1 assist), Lyle Ochs (2 goals), and freshmen Charlie Rose (1 goal) and Collin Campbell (1 assist) all scored their first points at the varsity level. In addition to that, sophomore Landon Wood saw his first varsity action as the goalie and recorded his first save. Junior Sunny Agrawal and sophomore Alex Baker had their first varsity face off wins. The Lions host Keller this Friday night at 8:00 p.m.
Water PoloThe varsity water polo team traveled to Denton on Saturday and played two games to kick off their season. The Lions lost to Flower Mound HS 8-7 in the first game, but rebounded in the second game to beat Denton Ryan HS 8-5. The Lions play again this Friday and Saturday in the Dutton Tournament hosted by Southlake Carroll.
Track & FieldThis past weekend, the varsity Track & Field team participated in its first meet of the 2017 season. The team traveled to Greenhill School to compete in the Greenhill Invitational. The team finished second overall but came away with many highlights and PR’s (personal records). Leading the group was junior Zach Gilstrap who won the shot put (PR of 40’ 6”) and second in the discus (PR of 127’3”). Other highlights were sophomore John Harbison with a third place finish in the Pole Vault with a PR of 12’ 0”, newcomer junior Matthew Fornaro finishing 3rd in the triple jump, junior Clay Morris with an impressive start in the high jump with a jump of 6’ 2”. The relays also had a good day with the 400 Relay finishing second in 44.60 (CJ Crawford, Matthew Coleman, Fausto Rehyer, Seun Omonije) while the 1600 Relay team won the final race of the day (Victor Barton, Adam Subel, Seun Omonije, Matthew Coleman). All in all, a good day by the entire team. This week the team travels to the Lucas Lovejoy Invitational on Saturday. Things get rolling at 8:30am.
BaseballThe varsity baseball team traveled to Trinity Valley to play a non-counter game last Tuesday evening. Walking eight batters, the Lions pitching staff struggled all game to get ahead in the count against the Trojan offense. A couple of untimely defensive errors also opened up the scoring for the opposition. Additionally, the Lions offense left 10+ runners on base despite scattering five singles through seven innings. After a long 2 hours and 40 minutes of play, the Lions fell, 1-6. The baseball team will look to rebound this Tuesday at home against CHANT (4 pm start) before facing Casady this Saturday (11 am start) in the first SPC counter game of the year.
ALUMNI ATHLETE NEWSParker Dixon ’16, a freshman volleyball player at Princeton University, having started out last week with several national awards (see update last week), ended up winning the AVCA National Player of the Week Award which is the highest weekly award given in all of Men’s College Basketball. Parker is only the second player in the Princeton Men’s Volleyball program’s history to receive this honor. Read more
