Volunteer of the Year

Last Friday, January 10, Eddie Yang ’17 received the Rays of Lights Volunteer of the Year Award. Rays of Light is a Dallas-based non-profit organization that focuses on providing care and support to families with children with special needs in the Dallas area. St. Mark’s students have long enjoyed volunteering with Rays of Light, especially helping with their Friday night program known as Night Lights.

Eddie became interested in Rays of Light during his freshmen year after encouragement from upperclassmen, and he quickly found it easy to connect and form relationships with the children. As Eddie progressed through St. Mark’s, he began to make his Friday night trips to the Night Lights program a priority each week, and his dedication to the organization was recognized with the Rays of Light Volunteer of the Year Award.

“This award came as a complete surprise, and I am so honored to have received it,” Eddie said. “I truly love working with the kids and can only hope that after I leave, St. Mark's will continue its strong relationship with Rays of Light, as they have and will continue to depend on us for a consistent base of volunteers.”

In addition to Eddie's award, St. Mark's received the Champion Award from Rays of Light recognizing the School for the large number of volunteers who participated in the Night Lights program.

Currently, Eddie serves as the Board Manager for the Community Service Board.
