Community Celebrates the Holidays

On the morning of December 16, 2016, the entire St. Mark’s student body gathered in the W. W. Browning, Jr., Great Hall with faculty, staff, parents, and alumni for the annual All-School Christmas Party. Students applauded as the Senior Class entered, carrying their Lower School buddies on their shoulders and embodying the iconic Path to Manhood statue. After each buddy placed his ornament on the tree, Student Council President Christian McClain ’17 announced the successful completion of the Community Service Gift Drive, which collected more than 2,400 gifts for local non-profits. Major Jon Rich, Salvation Army DFW Metroplex Commander, thanked the St. Mark’s community for their generosity.

“The people who are receiving these gifts are very much blessed, but there’s something even deeper inside of us that responds when we’re able to give to others who are in need,” Major Rich said.

Before dismissing school for the Christmas break, Eugene McDermott Headmaster David Dini left the boys with a few thoughts about the holidays: “Whether watching our Lower School boys present their creations in Banner Chapel or listening to the Choir lift their voices at Lessons and Carols earlier this week, it has been deeply gratifying to see our community come together to celebrate the season in so many varied and important ways.”
