School Hosts Future Leaders Program

This past week, St. Mark’s hosted the Future Leader’s Boot Camp, an extension of the Future Leaders Program, which provides a week of instruction to local high school students.

“St. Mark’s is honored to be a part of the program in providing resources and facilities in the quest for educational opportunities for all,” said Veronica Pulido, St. Mark’s liaison for the camp and the Al G. Hill ’63 Director of College Counseling. “Sharing resources and knowledge with other students continues our mission of supporting the greater Dallas community.”

Students developed their writing skills with targeted courses such as Argument Writing, Synthesis in Argument Writing, and Personal Narrative Writer’s Workshop, while participating in discussions about how they want to change the world. Rising seniors were given an opportunity to learn about the college admission process, including a mini-college fair featuring ten schools.

“I covered a wide range of topics including college visits, interviewing, resume building, essay writing, financial aid, and more,” Mrs. Pulido said. “I wanted the seniors to have a chance to be introspective of themselves and how they will be presenting themselves to colleges in the application process.”

The Future Leaders Program partners with 21 DISD schools and, during the year, students meet twice a week on the campuses of St. Mark’s, Hockaday, and ESD.
