Baccalaureate Honors Seniors

The Class of 2016 was honored on the night of Tuesday, May 17, 2016, during Baccalaureate, their last chapel service as a class. In a time-honored tradition, the seniors lined the walkway outside of the Chapel and applauded as their teachers processed in. After the service, the teachers returned the gesture, lining the walkway to Nearburg Hall and applauding their former students.

Drew Baxley ’16 was selected to speak on behalf of the Class. He thanked the parents and teachers who supported him and his “brothers” on their journey through St. Mark’s. He also reflected on his own family’s journey and the lessons he learned along the way.

“The reward isn’t just a diploma at the end of twelve years of hard work,” Drew said. “The reward is that you become a good man.”

Speaking for the faculty, Joe Milliet, Thomas B. Walker III ’73 Mathematics Department Chair, stressed the importance of maintaining character and integrity as the boys go out into the world. He also reminded them of the importance of home.

“You may leave 10600 Preston Road but your heart will forever be at St. Mark’s School of Texas,” Mr. Milliet said. “No matter how long you’ve been away, or what your journey may have been, you will never be stranded. You can always come home to St. Mark’s.”

Both speeches are available to view online here.

The Commencement ceremony for the Class of 2016 will be held on campus this Friday, May 20, 2016, at 8:00 p.m.
