Scholar Athlete of the Month

A news crew from NBC 5 surprised Bryce Killian ’16 in his ceramics class, announcing that he was selected as the Wingstop Scholar Athlete of the Month, recognizing his outstanding performance both on and off the playing field. Bryce is a member of the varsity lacrosse, basketball, and football teams, and maintains 4.2 GPA. He is heavily involved in the Young Men’s Service League and has participated in mission trips to Guatemala and Alabama.

Bryce came to his fourth period ceramics class believing the NBC 5 news crew was there to film a story about ceramics instructor Bill Kysor’s upcoming retirement. While interviewing Bryce for that “story,” NBC 5 reporter David Watkins surprised Bryce with the big announcement.

“Thank you very much,” a stunned Bryce told David Watkins. “I’m just really thankful and glad that they’re giving me this opportunity. It feels good to know that what I did is being noticed.”

Bryce’s classmates applauded him as a Wingstop Representative presenting him with an oversized check for the $1,000 scholarship. The full story is available to watch on NBC 5
