Marksman Contributes to Research Paper
Throughout his Upper School career, Joshua Choe ’16 took part in professional-level research at The University of Texas at Dallas. After submitting a research proposal to professors at UTD, Josh had the chance to work closely with professional medical researchers in the University's laboratories. During his time there, Joshua collected enough data in his research on cancer to be granted co-first authorship on an upcoming research paper.

“In all my years here, I know of only one other student who has achieved success like this,” said Dr. Steve Balog, Cecil H. and Ida Green Master Teaching Chair in Science. Balog taught Joshua’s junior physics class and wrote him a letter of recommendation for the UTD Siemens internship. According to Balog, St. Mark’s had an impact on Joshua in more ways than one throughout his time at UTD, “I believe St. Mark’s taught Joshua how to organize his time and how to best utilize his skills.” At St. Mark’s, physics students are taught to look for patterns in their research and how to best filter data by relevance through these patterns.
Joshua Choe’s research findings not only granted him co-first authorship on the upcoming research paper, but his professor also thinks the research findings may be significant enough to qualify for further publication in additional scientific journals.
