Jazz Musicians Selected for All-State

Four St. Mark’s jazz musicians placed in the Texas Private School Music Educator’s All-State Jazz Ensemble. Nick Buckenham ’15 (tenor saxophone), Chris Carter ’15 (baritone saxophone), Rahul Maganti ’17 (alto saxophone), and Chirag Gokani ’17 (bass) will perform at the TPSMEA’s All-State Concert on January 31, 2015, at Texas State University. Earlier this fall, Nick and Rahul were selected to be a part of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Jazz Institute, a brand new program that is currently focusing on jazz combo performances.

On November 8, Nick once again defended his lead tenor saxophone spot in the Association of Texas Small School Band’s All-State Jazz Ensemble and will perform in San Antonio during the winter break. This marks Nick’s fourth appearance in an All-State jazz band in just two years. In September, Nick was also selected to play lead tenor sax in the Texas Music Educator’s Association's Region 20 second jazz band and will perform with that ensemble on December 6 at Waxahachie High School. Rounding out a busy musical season, Nick will also perform with the ATSSBA’s Region Jazz Ensemble on November 14 in Celina, Texas.
