DMN Publisher Shares Leadership Insights

Dallas Morning News Publisher & CEO Jim Moroney spoke to a room full of upperclassmen about his views on leadership. Members of Telos and the Leadership & Ethics Council listened as Jim discussed what makes a good leader.

“There are no natural born leaders,” Jim said. “Leadership is an abstraction. You can be taught about leadership but you can only learn leadership through experience.”

Jim then expounded upon six pillars of leadership: integrity, humility, judgment, authenticity, inspiration, and to know thyself. During his presentation, he referenced philosophers from Socrates to Yoda and showed clips from Star Wars to emphasize his point.

Jim is a graduate of Cistercian and the uncle of senior Mason Smith ’15.
