Student Organizes Summer Camp

Jake Galant ’16 is spending his summer months at camp. But unlike other kids his age, Jake is attending a camp that he created and runs. Expanding on his brother Zach's idea for a computer camp, Jake created Tera Byte Outreach, a nonprofit camp that invites local students to learn computer programming. The camp is funded by the original Tera Byte Camp and allows 65 students to attend the week-long camp at local schools.

“I am really proud of how the camp is right now,” Jake told the Dallas Morning News. “A huge number of kids that otherwise would not have had the opportunity to create video games while learning about technology, creativity and logic are getting that opportunity.”

Last summer, Jake expanded the camp across the globe, teaching a camp in Beijing and drawing on the Mandarin language skills he's learned at St. Mark's.
