Perot Museum Welcomes Alumni

On the evening of February 25, 2013, more than 250 St. Mark’s alumni and their guests gathered at the recently-opened Perot Museum of Nature and Science for the latest event in the Alumni Leadership Speaker Series. A panel of St. Mark’s Science Faculty was the evening’s featured speakers, as Alumni Board President Jeff Hillier ’76 welcomed the audience, before turning the microphone over to moderator David Campbell ’86. A faculty panel, consisting of Stephen M. Seay ’68 Science Department Chair Stephanie Barta, Cecil H. and Ida Green Master Teaching Chair Stephen Balog, Director of Environmental Studies Dan Northcut ’81, and Chemistry Teacher Ken Owens ’89 discussed a number of relevant questions regarding a variety of scientific topics and fielded questions from the audience.

Among many other interesting issues, the group discussed the state of scientific exploration in the classrooms at 10600 Preston Road, how curriculum and subject matter must be constantly updated in order to keep pace with the latest in scientific discovery, recent graduates of St. Mark’s and the current impact that Marksmen are having in the scientific community, as well as the many opportunities that faculty members have taken for professional development.

Following this presentation, guests were free to explore the four-story museum and its many attractions, while interacting with the panelists, as well as many other St. Mark’s Science Faculty who were on-hand as Special Guests.
